What sizes of lumber does it use?

US lumber uses real sizes: a 2×4 is 1 1/2″ × 3 1/2″ (38 × 89 mm), a 1×6 is 3/4″ × 5 1/2″; boards come in 6, 8, 10 and 12 ft. Metric boards are 20–100 mm thick, 2–6 m long. Plywood is 1/4″, 1/2″ and 3/4″ (or 4–21 mm).

How does it choose which boards to buy?

Parts are sorted from longest to shortest and fitted onto boards, leaving room for the saw kerf; with “Best” each board is then bought as short as its cuts allow. Plywood parts are packed onto sheets.

Can I change the sizes?

Yes: width, depth and height, and options such as the number of shelves, the overhang or the gap between slats. You can also click a size right on the 3D model and type a new one.

How accurate is the cost?

It is an estimate from a price per cubic metre of boards and a price per plywood sheet. Type the prices from your store in the Plan step to get your own figure.

Can I open it in Excel?

Yes: “Cut list (Excel)” downloads a CSV file that Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets open. The PDF plan has the picture, the shopping list, the cut list, the cutting diagrams, the steps and the views.
